WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A REAL BEAUTY QUEEN?
Nowadays, there are so many beauty pageants in the world and its quiet normal now for most women to be part of it or into it. But the question is, how do we measure the real beauty queens?
A couple of weeks ago, while I was putting up my own facebook page, Winlove McLaren, I got an interesting question from a male friend before he liked my page and his question makes a lot of sense.
What is your page about? It’s all about reaching out to people and sharing them all my current and future projects with charities in Asia. Also its one way of getting back my facebook privacy status like I had before too.
I'm still pretty sceptical about what beauty pageants achieve so it would be good to see some real positive impact with charities, etc., in addition to all your gorgeous selfies (wink emoticon). That's actually what I'm trying to achieve - doing something real behind photoshoots, makeup and crown.
Why is there a need for the beauty pageant, crown and all the makeup and selfies to do some charity work though? Millions of people who don't possess the same superficial beauty do charity work every day without any fanfare.
The last question is very real. I don’t know where I should start. But based on my experiences in life and outlook towards beauty pageant and charity works – one doesn’t really need a crown, makeup and selfies to do good to humanity and in life.
Just last year, I joined Mrs. Philippines Globe, and I didn’t make it to the top winners but I didn’t give up and felt like I lost myself - NO. Instead, I used it as a motivation to do good things that one doesn’t need a title to be kind. What I did was, I shared my passion to right people, talk to them and made our own group and focused on reaching out to those who needs our help. We are on our first year now and we are doing very well.
I decided to be part of the beauty pageant industry because I know through this, I can get a wider social connections, promote more of what I wanted to achieve and share and encourage my passion to more people. We all have our own idols and models that inspires us and motivates us in whatever we desire and so I wanted to be one day become someone’s inspiration too.
This year, I got a call from the Philippines organisation to represent my country for the Mrs. Asia International and I got very excited and happy because this means – wider responsibilities ahead and more people to reach out and hears my voice. When I won the title and another very special title given to me by the President of the Mrs. Asia International pageant, I felt very blessed. Having to talk to Mr. Alex Liu, is the best opportunity I ever had. He’s the symbol of real inspiration in doing good things. He will always remind me to start from little things, to a stranger to somebody who works for you. Make their day, touch their lives and always be kind. Now, through the help of our pageant director Datin Sharon Too, we’re able to reach out to more charities. Like this month, we were able to support a charity for cancer patients, next would be visiting the old folks home and going to do some charity works for Nepal victims. This is not work. It’s a passion. It’s something I called, my purpose in life to earth – reaching out to people, sharing love.
So, back to my question what does it take to be a real beauty queen? Kindness and pureness of heart. Beauty fades away as we grow older or as we get busier in our everyday lives but with the person who possess a real inner beauty, naturally glows among everybody else. Happiness from the heart by doing good things comes out and makes you shine. It doesn’t matter who you help – start from a stranger to your friends and family. One by one, be an inspiration and touch their lives. You’ll never know what impact you give to someone. Karma knows when and how to reward someone.
